Shortening a denim skirt

Got a bargain denim maternity skirt for £5 in the sale! It comes to below my knees so looks a bit frumpy. I'd like to wear it in the autumn with leggings and boots so want to shorten it by quite a bit.

I have basic sewing skills and own a sewing machine.

Would anyone be able to advise me on how to approach shortening it please?

I always just cut double stick over joins and then fray the edge

Stitch not stick

That's an idea but it's an indigo denim so I'm not sure how well a frayed look would work? I tend to think that looks nice with light denim.

I'm wondering if I should hand over to my MIL who is very good at these things!
