Drops yarn for crochet - opinions?

I am close to finishing my first ever crocheted granny square blanket for my DD, I've used Sirdar Calico (60% cotton/40% acrylic) and I'm really pleased with how it looks and feels..... Next project is a blanket for DS! I want to use a cotton or cotton mix yarn again but he wants more vibrant colours.

Reading Attic24's blog she uses Drops yarns..... Drops Muskat is 100% cotton, so is Drops Paris. Cotton Light and Cotton Viscose are cotton mixes - all come in loads of fab colours.

Have any of you used Drops yarn? How do you rate it? All feedback gratefully received!

I've not used it yet, but it seems very popular and widely used on Ravelry and very well priced. They have a lot of offers on it too. Wool Warehouse is a big UK stockist so maybe keep an eye out for an offer there? I've used WW for other wool and lovely customer service.

Not many Drops yarns seemed to be machine washable when I looked at them, which put me off a bit but less likely to be a concern for cottons of course (yarns that say they felt beautifully scare me to death )

I've been using drops merino extra fine for my projects and I love it! It has a lovely feel and is much more reasonable than my other yarns of choice, debbie bliss cashmerino and Rialto.

I got mine from wool warehouse, quick delivery and free wool needles, what's not to like

It seems very reasonable in price, so I was wondering what the catch was - maybe there isn't one!! I'll order some I think

The Muskat is very hard. I made a neck warmer in it recently as a present. It softened up a little after a short go in the tumble drier but it was still not blanket-worthy.

The Drops Cotton Light is much softer and I have 4 of every colour bought in the current sale but I've not had chance to try it properly. It looks good but is a little splitty to work with. I think it is excellent value for money though.

I've used Drops Paris to make my Stepmum a shawl/scarf for Xmas, Link to it on Ravelry and I loved it. Its really soft and easy to work with. :)

Paris is quite a thick Aran weight - I just did some test pieces in different yarns and I personally thought Paris was too thick. I have done a Ripple blanket in RICO Creative Cotton Aran and Paris is heavier. Drops Cotton Light made a lovely drapey sample - I liked it better than RICO Baby Cotton Soft which is similar fibre blend but very thin - I'd say mid way between DK and 4 ply. Muscat is quite stiff and more stranded - it's a bit like DMC Natura if you've used that, not mercerised, wouldn't use it for a blanket.
I decided to go with the Cotton Light - since woolwarehouse currently have it at 90p a ball I can live with 'a bit splitty'!
