How do I work out how much elastic I need to replace a band in a dress?

Have to do it by hand as my machine's knackered...

I'm thinking for simplicity's sake I should just pin and stretch as I go then try on before I use a short running stitch to attach it.

But if anyone has a better idea before I go ahead (when I buy the elastic tomorrow) then I'd appreciate it Smile

Stretch the elastic around you first to measure how long it should be. Pin the beginning and end then half way points then quarter points then, as you say, stretch in between to actually sew onto fabric? Not expert (obv :) ) but that's how I'd do it.

yeah that sounds a better way to try it. Fingers crossed it'll work Confused
