how do I replace sherring elastic by hand?

Have searched youtube for a video but they all appear to be for machine - my machine's a bit fooked so they're no good Sad

Firstly what colour is the fabric and what colour stirring elastic do you have ?
If close enough in colour then a short running stitch will do . Try to keep the stitch on the right side of the fabric small though. Do one row at a time and pull to size.

How would you start/finish the ends? Knotting it?

Not had to hand sew for a while

Yes a big knot in the elastic and then a few stitches back and forth to secure.
I am away this week but if all else fails you could PM me and post it to me and I will re-do and return to you. My machine is permanently set up and ready to go. Grin

Thanks for the advice Trumpton, have done 12 rows front and back and the difference is amazing!! Now I know what to do I can fix my skirt up too Smile
