Too short for a scarf

I started knitting a lace pattern scarf in cashmere, it looks so beautiful. The only problem is I thought I had enough wool to do a whole scarf, I only have 12" of scarf. The wool is from china and they have stopped making it.
I have other colours in the same material but the grey is too nice to blend.
It is 4"" wide. What else could I use it as?
I'm gutted I thought I had more in this colour. It's too nice to unravel. It should be 16" when I've finished the remaining wool, roughly.

Turn it into a cowl/infinity scarf by sewing the ends together?

Even fastened with buttons it will throttle you.

My neck is about 14 inches.

Um... stitch it into a bag shape and line it with something to show off the lace pattern?

If you have more yarn the same weight you could pick up round the piece you have and knit it longer and wider to turn it into some sort of neck thing.

Good ideas. I can't pick up stitches on existing things, my skills are still limited. When I've finished I'll block it and post a picture so you can see.
My partner suggested a head scarf/band but I would feel a plank wearing it lol.

How wide is it?

About 4" wide, in fact 16" long when finished is being hopeful, probably not quite that long.

Are you sure the yarn is unavailable? I wasted hours on some auction site looking at wool from China recently.

They release their yarn in batches, I would imagine the next lot would be a different dye lot anyway. Yes I bought It on eBay, it's lovely stuff but I only ordered one in the grey -damn it-

Block it and frame it?

If I threw turquoise in would that look rubbish?

Um... no idea. It shouldn't but sometimes you can only tell once you're making it up - I"ve frogged things that I thought should work but look rubbish.

What about if I make a cushion cover, then sew the lace "scarf" on top?

Yes.
Although I'm still knitting it and its now 18" long, I reckon I could get it to 20-21". Might get away with using it as some kind of neckwear. Hmm on second thoughts it will look silly.

you could try stretching it a bit longer when blocking, might make it long enough for a cowl?

I could try stretching, I found a spare travel cot mattress to use for blocking stuff. I'll see what I can get away with, the edges have a feather and fan sort of effect so I'll need loads of pins. How long should I block it for then?

I usually soak it then leave it to block until it's dry, which is a few days. I learned how to do it by reading this: www.eunnyjang.com/knit/2006/05/block_me_amadeus_1.html. I think 20" is a good enough size for a cowl so probably won't need to stretch it loads.
