My lovely friend is about to undergo high dose chemo and has been told she is very likely to lose her hair. She has a great sense of humour (even facing this terrible disease) and I want to make her a kit in readiness for what she has called 'The Big Shred. One small problem - I don't knit nor do I have time to learn. I wondered if there were any bored knitters out there who might knit me : some eyebrows, a 'hairy' merkin and some underarm patches. I would happily pay for time and wool! I'm going to find her a fancy box, stuff it with a good book, chocolate and some tit tape to attach aforesaid items. How does that sound ?

What colour hair has she? I could crochet some? I have a black "eye lash" type yarn that would look funny as eyebrows etc?

Great idea Smile I would love to help, but without a pattern would take me a couple of weeks... which I guess wouldn't be soon enough for the reveal. If you'd like a multi-colour set making up in the longer term (you never know Wink) just let me know and I will have a go!

Thanks guys - she has light brown hair. Pig, i am grateful for any help! Some eyebrows would be wonderful!

What a wonderful idea EdiePig The only wool soft enough for a hat is alpaca, I can help with that if you like.

Dutchoma - sounds lovely. Can you give me a rough estimate of cost please ? (Hate saying this but I'm on a budget Sad )

I'm not a knitter op but do have a look on www.ravelry.com/ for some pattern ideas

Just making enquiries of a local breeder.

Dutchoma · 08/07/2013 15:13

I had a message from my friend who says her sister-in-law's mother (bear with me) is just spinning some alpaca, but it is £11 per 100 gr. Is that a bit expensive? Let me know before I order it.

ThePigOfHappiness · 08/07/2013 20:20

Why would she need alpaca though oma? I thought they were just kind of novelty items? She'll hardly wear knitted eyebrows or underarm hair regularly, just for a laugh?
Btw p when my mum had chemo she hated her wig as it was too itchy, and hated bandanas as they screamed cancer to people who didn't know her. She did get a really very soft cotton baseball hat though, which she wore every where. Maybe something very light like that would be good for summer time?

Dutchoma · 08/07/2013 20:37

I was thinking she would want a hat as well as the novelty items. Alpaca is about the softest you can get, but it may well be a bit on the pricey side.
