My DD also loved the chunky Hama beads that you can get as she found them easy to manipulate. We never ironed them, though so she could use and reuse them.

I did search, chunky beads, kids beads, large beads etc but was only finding necklaces and baby threading sets

ELC used to sell chunky beads with thread, not sure if the y still do.
