Ds (9) birthday was this week. His favourite present was a sewing machine. He is keen to get going on it but I'd like to get him a book of things he could make. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I've suggested his first project could be a peg bag for his grandma.

I got some books from the library for DD - often they will only be able to make one or two items from each book as they need to be really simple to start with.

A peg bag is a good first project. DD made lots of phone socks for her friends and also some small pencil cases - a bit tricky with the zip which I helped her with but otherwise a success.

Thanks. I think we will be sticking with peg bags for a while but will definitely have a look in the library.

I can't reccomend any books, but I wondered what sewing machine you got him? My ds1 wants me to teach him to use a machine, but I'm not too keen on starting him on mine as I feel it is too big and he wouldn't be able to control the peddle well enough.

What about a simple patchwork squares cushion cover. The squares can be any size and you could make it envelope style to avoid having to put a zip in.
