sizzix novice - please help!

I don't understand my new machine! Do you have to pull the handle down then rearange the die and then do it again, and if so how do you stop it slipping between cuts. This is probably the stupidest sizzix question everShock

aww dont worry I thought the same.
When I cut I place die on paper on cutting mat. Then move it under the bit that squashes it[how technical] press down then slide the cutting mat etc under a little more and press down again. Thats all I do.

no because you dont touch the paper or the die. You just press slide the cutting pad through more and then press again. However I am no expertWink

thanks for helping - I am looking forward to joining in with the sizzix convos now that I have managed to get one [although clearly cannot claim to be a master of the machine as yet!!]

I find it better if I place the sizzix facing me, not side ways.

Have the white board in front of you as far as it will come out on the sizzix,

Place your piece of card on the white board, then place the die on top.

From the front and with one finger, push the white board under the compression .

Don't push from the top of the white board or you may disturb the card and die.

Practise a few times using cheap card you can get a pack of I think 150 or 200, 200grm from Asda for about £3.00.

I use it all the time to make practise cards to see what they look like before I use my good card stock

As Nemo says move the plate rather than trhe die.

..and if you have new dies, try cutting a few out first on old paper to 'bed' them in a bit before you try on good stuff.

do you mean crop in terms of scrapbooking?
If so then that's a meeting where people go to scrapbook together.
Crop can also be when you cut down a bigger piece of card if you only need a smaller piece of card.

I've been scrapping just over a year now. I love it. Much prefer it to card making tbh, it just is so fantastic.

I scrap as well. WAs cajoled into it by YG and did my first Layout (Lo) in Feb of this year.

mousiemousie am another scrapper. Only took it up about a month ago and am obsessed already..have been to a couple of crops and spent far too much money on bits..lol

pixiefish what type of tips. To be honest they basically provide somewhere to go for a crop. Usually provide refreshments and cost around a fiver. Oh and they also tend to do a small raffle or something. The best crop I go to is also alternately a class and she charges £6 but provides papers and tips/techniques.

Basically Nemo I have a venue and that's it. No other ideas. The venue is a pub so refreshments will be there. Any good things that you see at the crops Nemo

pixiefish one of the best things for me is that sarah from sarahs cards is usually at the crops I go to. Although maybe not so good as I spend a fortune but it lets you see papers etc which means you tend to buy. Dont know id either you or anyone you know sells stock so may be worth taking it along as its obviously easier to match papers.
Errm other good things is everyone being able to have table or something to themselves..you know how we scrappers spread out.

Nemo- even though I'm in a Design Team the person whose DT I'm in lives miles away so i wouldn't be able to really take an awful lot of stuff with me. The crop is going to be held in a pub owned by a lady who owns a craft shop BUT she's not really that well stocked for scrapping- she's more into cards.

Going to try and put some paper packs together from the shop that i'm on the DT for but logistically that will be fairtly hard to get hold of the paper
