Ive won a sewing machine on eBay Smile

I did a gcse in textiles but that was 20 years ago, I haven't got a clue where to start, has anyone got any hints and tips to share?

Im picking it up tomorrow, so fingers crossed it does work

That's great news! Sewing can really be a lot of fun. There are a lot of simple "learn to sew" patterns available wherever you can buy fabric. Good luck with new hobby.

yey! Come and join the crafty community! I bought my first machine a couple of years ago and after looking at it for a year, finally started using it properly last year. Best piece of advice I can give you is - GO FOR IT! Grin

Thanks, ive only ever made pillow cases and hair ruffles so im going to start from scratch. Where is the best place to get patterns from? All the ones ive seen look ancient.
I am hooked on pinterest though and it has given me some inspiration, cant wait get started Smile

How about picking up a magazine like Mollie Makes or a book from the library?

Lucky you! How much did you get it for? Ive been trying to get one too but I keep getting outbidded.
I think the sewing bee has made them more popular.

I got it for £18, its old but works ok, ive ordered a load of fabric squares off eBay, I thought I'd make a patchwork cushion for my daughters bed Smile
