Yarn help please!

Has anyone used Sublime Cashmere Merino Silk Aran? I want to make a granny square blanket for my step mother who has wanted a cashmere blanket for years. I know there's not much cashmere in it but I can't find any pure cashmere which is remotely affordable (as you'd expect!) and I wondered whether the Aran weight might make it a bit quicker. Any thoughts?

I've never worked with that yarn, but although it might be quicker to knit, it would also be thicker and therefore take more of the wool. I'm afraid that whatever you do it is going to be expensive.

Hm, that's true. I've found an 80% cashmere 20% merino chunky blend that looks amazing but it's 50g balls and £18.50 per ball!

I have a box full of the Cashmerino Aran waiting to be made into a blanket. As I've not started it I can't help though!

I don't know! I bought it in a sale.

It will be sofa-snuggling-size.

And I bought it over a year ago so don' hold your breath for me to start!

I have used it for a scarf. It is lovely and soft and heavy. I think it would stretch a bit/be a bit heavy for a blanket.

I have always done blankets in cotton or synthetic rich yarns as they have to be tough and hold their shape.

I have used the DK version. I wouldn't use it for a blanket TBH - You would have loads of ends to weave in as it's only 50g balls and it's not machine washable. It's lovely yarn, but I wouldn't use something so expensive and relatively delicate for a blanket personally.

But yes, I think it would work up quicker being an aran rather than thinner yarn.

Go to eBay and type in cashmere soy cotton. They are 50g balls with 40% cashmere, all natural materials, lovely colours and absolutely beautiful to touch. You may need a few balls but they are far cheaper than £18.50 per ball.

hi ive used this wool on a lot of projects and it lovely but expensive. King Cole do a 100 % Alpaca wool which is sooooooooooooo soft and great to work with. Maybe Try that
