If an otherwise responsible parent, who is trying to learn to knit

makes a strange and post-apocalyptic looking sweater for their baby, is it o.k to dress them in it even if people stare?
Or should the very first efforts only be admired in private?
(There's nothing particularly wrong with the Mad Max Beyond the Thunderdrome look, is there...?)

Of course you should dress the baby in it - admire both of your hand-made products in one eyeful!

I only knit for my babes, as once they get past about 2y the patterns are too large for me (I get bored and lose concentration). There's always something wrong with the jumpers! Generally something like an extra 2" on the sleeves - though the last thing I made, a zip-up cardie for dd, had one side 1" longer than the other. I blame the fact that I finished it over Xmas, and all those glasses of port did for me! But I managed to hide the excess when I put the zip in, and now she wears it with great pride (mine! ).

No,wear with pride.
Home made things are special.
All the children in my family have worn the hideous cardigan I cobbled together for my new born niece 17 years ago!

I mean that the pride is mine - though she's quite partial to the cardie, too.

And the first thing I knitted (a pullover with one button at the back) had the neck placed so high that I didn't put the button in, but had ds wear it back-to-front.

oh i thought it was just me! i'm quite a prolific knitter too poor buggers.

I'm thinking I might as well take advantage of the fact that at 11 months he has no idea what he's wearing.

I have an amazing little knitted item I made for dd1 it's my proof of being able to knit..it's lacy and brilliant..I do not have the aran jumper I made for exh when his mum asked if I could knit and when I said no she said well you can't be good at everything..response an aran sweater..which he lost

Oh yes, be out and proud, I would :)

So the consensus is that it's o.k.

The love is there but the aesthetic sense lacking?
