Help with making glittery sneakers

MrsGeologist · 21/03/2013 17:55

I'be already bought the glitter and the sneakers, I'm just wondering which glue would e best.
I have mod podge, PVA and copydex. I've seen a few tutorials referring to using te both, and I dot know which would be best.

They are for my three year old, who is actually very careful with his shoes, but they'll still get a bit if heavy wear.

Thanks in advance. Smile

I glittered an old pair of patent court shoes for a fancy dress costume and used PVA. The glitter stuck really well, but the glue did split on the creases by the end of the night, perhaps because it was adhered to a shiny non-porous surface.

Are the shoes a woven fabric, like canvas?

Yes, they are canvas. I'll be leaving the rubbery bits free, and just doing the canvas.

Hmm, I bet PVA would work well on canvas. The glitter was really very well stuck, just the glue lifted away from the patent where the shoes creased.

Have you got a scrap of cotton fabric to experiment with? Stick the glitter on then give it a good scrunch etc to see how it adheres.

That's a good idea, thanks, I'll give that a go. In fact, I think I have an old pair of sneakers somewhere, so I can do a trial run.
