How do I put holes in fleece? On purpose??

I want to edge a fleece with crochet but obviously I need to punch some holes in it first. Can I use a normal hole punch or do I have to get a crafty one? Has anyone done this??

Can't you get a pointy crochet hook to do it? I know you can get ones to do pillows etc.
