Crochet...how and where to learn?

I've recently taught myself to do chain stitch and...er...that's it. I want to make a granny square, but YouTube and the Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Needlework are just confusing me. I can do loooonnnnnngggg chains, or I can get in a knotted, cussing muddle.

I'm stuck in with the dog-ends of a virus and a little crafting would cheer me.

Can you recommend any good tutorials? I find it hard to transfer diagrams or instructions to action, so it needs to be idiot-proof.

Thank you.

I used Crafty Minx's crochet tutorials... They were fab.

I learnt to crochet many years ago. I bought a book and some hooks and messed up for quite a long time, but then it started working and has done ever since. Very therapeutic. I wish we'd had the internet in those days; things are so much easier when you can watch!

I used the Purl Bee tutorial for granny square basics. It is in US terminology but as long as you crochet a treble where they say DC you will be fine. It has lovely step by step instruction with lots of photographs.

Crochet unravelled is a good book :)

Sorry - it would help if I posted a link. I am on the mobile site, so I hope this works. Grin
