aww redbull dont be gutted...I first started crafting with glass painting ages ago and I was awful at it...now I am so so and that has taken 4 yrs..lol
Just be proud of what you have done.

What type of card making did you try?

soapbox · 01/05/2006 22:14

Redbull - we all have days like that, I promise you:)

It's like any other hobby it takes a long time to become good at it.

I'm a recent starter too and I have learned loads and loads but still have a long long way to go!

Why don't you post some piccies up here and we'll let you know what we think/

redbull · 01/05/2006 22:15

just tried making some bday cards tith embelishments and layering, it just looks so rubbish.
do you think it could be because i havent enough papers and stuff as i have only just started??

OP posts:
redbull · 01/05/2006 22:16

how do you post the pictures????

OP posts:
Nemo1977 · 01/05/2006 23:10

redbull it could be due to limited stuff as this craft ctuff has a habit of expanding...quite dramatically. Have never attempted embellishing myself so maybe post a pic in either members profiles or the yahoo site the crafters us..cant remember the address sorry.

Dingle · 02/05/2006 15:55

To post your pics on the yahoo site you will need to become a member of the group, chat to AQ or JM for details.

I have been card making for just over 3 years now, and I know others too, look back at their first cards and think OMG!!Grin Crafting is just a learning process, and with cardmaking and scrapping there are so many techniques to try. Don't be so hard on yourself because your first attempts don't match the picture in your mind!

Stick with it, try a few things that you enjoy and sit back and watch your progress bloom. Most of all make sure you enjoy the process!

Peachyclair · 02/05/2006 16:26

Some days, I make a card (like my dinosaur one) and think yes- I've really got the hang of it now Grin; most days I think oh no why do I bother? There's quite a high discard rate with most crafters ime, especially at first. And some of the cards I thought were cool and sent to poeple... Blush cringe. let us see once you get onto the gallery and keep trying Grin

Whizzz · 02/05/2006 17:42

Redbull - ditto what people have said about keep trying ! Also I think they more stuff (papers etc) you have, the harder it is to decide what to use Grin
I find often now, I get all my stuff out & sit for half an hour just trying to decide what shade of blue to use !! It was so much easier when I only had 1 shade of blue card !!

redbull · 02/05/2006 18:48

who is AQ and JM and where would i find them?????????????????????????????????

ive been dieing for a diecutting machine for a while. finally got one, and went blank. eventually made a cardd, which has obviously cost a fortune, using a butterfly die, adn cant stand the thing.
just dont know what to do with the bloomin shapes n ow

Whizzz · 02/05/2006 19:40

What shapes have you got ??

sixtwosix · 02/05/2006 20:23

ive got a butterfly, that also makes hearts, cos the wings have cut out hearts.
a set of four little ones that are flowers and leaves, hawaian?
a caterpillar
and a beach stuff, bucket spade sunglasses that i havent even tried yet.
the whole lot cost more than a hundred pounds including th emachine. Blush and now i dont know what to do with them.
i want an itty bitty body, but one i cant find it anywhere, and two, what if i spend even more money and then have a bigger block?

redbull · 02/05/2006 20:23

redbull · 02/05/2006 20:32

shacker cards?????

OP posts:
Whizzz · 02/05/2006 20:34

Nooooo - stick to the basics
first things I got was a guillotine (borrowed from DH), PVA glue, pack of blank cards & envelopes and a cheapo pack of mixed paper.
I then hunted round the house for bits & bobs - embroidery thread, felt tips, wrapping paper - anything.
Yes I made a few cards that were dreadful !
But you get better !

Dior · 02/05/2006 20:56

My first purchases were a couple of flower punches. I made some cute cards from them, and they sold well.

Whizzz · 02/05/2006 21:01

OO yes - a daisy punch too !
and things like cheapo confetti stars & shapes

kiwibella · 02/05/2006 21:11

sixtwosix... there is so much you can do with those dies! Relax and keep your eyes open - see what ideas other people have come up with :)

Carolinett · 04/05/2006 18:45

A card creaser was the best thing I ever bought I wouldn't be without it, plus you can use it to emboss lines on your cards
