I just love looking at quilting patterns, and some of them look so fabulous......but....does anyone actually still use a quilt these days?

me! In winter, its lovely over the duvet to keep you snuggly warm (heat off at 10pm,

In summer, I use it with a top sheet as my bed covering.

me too! I'm currently lying on mine which is on our bed :)

Of course!

You don't have just use them on beds. They can be wallhangings, table covers, playmats, little ones can be used as table runners and table mats. You can make quilted bags, clothes and boxes. The pattens and techniques are very versatile.

Yep, I have this lovely quilt on my bed which I made myself.

It always troubled me that my duvet covers weren't exactly to my liking, and DP broguht a duvet cover to the relationship that was blue and just didn't go in my bedroom, so the quilt is a godsend becasue it goes over the top of everything else and always looks nice. If it gets too warm to sleep with it we just fling it off.

Very useful for snuggling up on the sofa with too.

Are they fully washable? Do they stay in shape ok?

yes, mine goes in the wash, but gentle cycle. Mine gets washed a couple of times a year. I do need to stitch some of the binding which is coming loose, but otherswise its going stromg after 10 years

It is best to pre wash the fabric and the wadding before you sew it together to avoid it shrinking at different rates and puckering up. On the other hand some people like the home spun slightly puckered look so it isn't necssary. So long as you bear the potential for shrinking in mind you can wash it as much as you like.

I have an Amish quilt that I made on the bed right now... and am making a sampler quilt right now. :)

I love my quilts, perfect to curl up under while watching the tv and a great extra layer on my bed in the winder.
