How do you make a flag???

So dd1 has come home with the dreaded letter to make a flag for next Friday. It's meant to be 25cm wide. What should I use to make the flag and what should I use for the stick to wave it around with? And, it's for Maths Week, so any cool ideas on how to decorate it easily? Thanks.

Do you sew? You could cut up an old pillowcase or similar and hem it, then sew a thin channel down one edge to put a stick through.

Or make it from paper and fold it over the stick and staple it or sellotape it (less sturdy).

If it has to have a maths theme, then it could be decorated with different shapes (labelled?) or have a symmetrical pattern (make a shape template and draw around it, then reflect it or rotate it and draw again)

You could write facts on the flag about the flag itself. E.g. Shape = rectangle Quadrilateral. Length = .... Height = Area = Perimeter =

Thanks so much 2kids. I'm not great at sewing so have gone for the paper option and used a cardboard tube from the inside of some foil. The decoration still needs to be done but at least the first step is done. I'm thinking of some getting a stencil set from Rymans for some writing but in my Google search I saw free printable stencil websites but so many I was overwhelmed! Could you recommend a good site for alphabet stencils? Thanks again.

what should you use to make the flag? isn't it her homework? what's the point if you do it?

Hi. I usually get a piece of paper and roll it up tight, from one corner to another, and that makes a nice, safe 'stick' for you to attach the flag to.

Could you type it on word, then trace through the printout, or the image while it is still on screen?

Oh, I have ever made one, but without patterns, old fabric and smooth wooden sticks would be appreciated, my mum help me sewing them together with the sharp place wrapped with cloth! It is safe, hope this would be of some help! :)
