Dressmaking patterns - where to look? Total novice.

DD(6) has been asked to be a bridesmaid next summer. Bride has now asked if I can "run up" her dress in a pattern of my choice if she provides the fabric. I can't sew anything more advanced than a nametape, luckily MIL is an experienced amateur dressmaker and has agreed to make it, but I need to choose a pattern and give it to the bride so she can get the fabric and I would like to start by looking online (no fabric shops near me).

Can anyone recommened any websites for browsing patterns? Is there a dressmaking equivalent to Ravelry for example?

Jaycotts website is pretty good. Simplicity and butterick I usually find are easy to follow. Vogue isn't too bad either and sometimes has more up to date selection.

For browsing I tend to use sewingpatterms.com - it's a us site but I find it easier to find what I want here, note the pattern number and order from jaycotts, habithat or sew direct. Pattern review is also quite good as you can see what others think of the pattern and how it turned out.

Thanks both of you, I will get browsing. From what I have seen so far there only really seems to be one style of little girl bridesmaid dress, the one with the flat bodice and skirt flaring out from the ribs, but they seem a little young, DD will be 7.5 by the time the wedding comes along, so it would be nice if she could look slightly more grown up. I suppose it doesn't have to be a specific bridesmaid pattern.

This is lovely - and bit more grown up - Burda pattern but age starts at 10 - but I guess it might depend on how tall your DD is and/or whether your Mum would be OK adjusting the pattern a little.

Thanks Ninetynine I really like the first three, not so sure about the last one. Of the first three I like the strappy one best, also DD really suits halter necks, but they possibly aren't very bridesmaidish. I have been away this week and only had a phone to use, but i'm seeing the bride on Friday and am pinning some of them on Pinterest so it will be good to have a few to show her and check what she thinks before I commit to one, thanks again.
