Ideas for a toddler canvas painting?

My 2yo dd loves painting and had a blank canvas from her grandparents for Christmas.

Does anyone have any ideas what we can encourage her to do on it that wont end up a sludgy brown mess??

We thought it would be nice if she could do a special piece of art to hang on her bedroom wall at gp's house...

When my DD was this age, I gave her only 2 colours....red and white...or blue and white work well...then you get a prettier result! Avoiding any green or black helps....also, I gave mine feathers and sequins and she put those on too.

But really...you need to let her go a bit mad and the result is then truly hers.

put masking tape around the edges going about an inch into the front so you're left with a neat white "frame" at the edge of the painting. If you choose your colours well and don't give her anything that ads up to brown it'll look nice

so don't mix colours which between them contain yellow blue and red, so for example no green plus orange!

good combos:
blue red and white
blue yellow and green
red yellow and orange
purple white and pink
etc

Toddlers did neon pink,orange and yellow paint dribbles and splatters.

Possibly a bit bright for GPs, but very effective as others have said it didn't turn muddy.

Paint squiggles then stick on buttons or felt flowers could work.

You may have to sneakily hot melt them on after as kids clue won't hold on canvas.

Glue, auto correct hasn't a clue!

Any thoughts on what type of paint to use? I'm assuming poster paint might not quite cut the mustard on canvas...

Also, how do you make the canvas 'stand out' in a 3d effect? Is it with some kind of plaster? I have often seen this effect on canvas paintings and always wondered how to do it?
