I need a hobby! Crochet??

I have been inspired by Kirstie's Homemade Home. I used to enjoy sewing etc as a young girl. I would like to get into a bit of a craft and was thinking crochet would not be expensive and quite easy to learn and not take up alot of room.
We have a local Hobbycraft just opened up and they have a wool section.
I would need to re-learn how to do it though. Can I learn from You Tube?
Are there any good books please? Would a baby's hat be an easy starter?

I have taught myself just recently and have launched straight into a stripey throw for my sofa. I admit I haven't tried anything other than a double crochet stitch but was dead easy. Get a book or something and get going!

Crochet Unravelled is a good book. Particularly if you are left handed.

I learned from YouTube and that book :)

Crochet is great. All you need is a hook and.some wool. A 4mm hook and some cheap dk yarn is what I started with.

I recently bought wool from deramore (google it) as they have cheap stuff :)

Crochet is great, I've recently learnt and I absolutely love it!

I'm making blanket squares, a scarf, have made an alien for baby dnephew and nearly finished an angry bird for ds2. I've got wool for Wristwarmers and an infinity scarf too.

Once you get the hang of how to hold the wool and the hook, learning the stitches is quite easy I think. The only thing I've struggled with is keeping the correct number of stitches when doing rows but I sucessfully made a bobbly granny square in rows yesterday and kept all my stitches.

Crocheting in rounds is very straightforward. I like wooden hooks rather than metal, but they are pretty cheap.

That's funny, doyouthink I much prefer my metal hook!

LOL, I hate my metal ones now I've got wooden, the metal is all cold and jangly! My wooden ones are lovely to touch and they look so prettyXmas Grin
