What weight is it?

Have seen a fabby hat pattern but it is American and says I need worsted (or however it is spelt) weight wool.

Ravelry says Aran / 10 ply .

Thank you! I suspected it was.

Bum. I have a lovely ball of wool the hat would look fabby in but it is DK. Ah well, another trip to the wool shop needed then.... Shame Xmas Wink

It isn't, it's between dk and aran. It's a weight used in N America a lot. If it's a heavy dk then you will be fine.
Basically, 'fine aran' and 'heavy dk' are worsted. Roughly.

I've sometimes just gone up a half size of a needle when worsted is used. Ravelry does say Aran is the closest match, but in reality it's like steph says between a DK and Aran, so some thicker DK's are fine to use in lieu.

Is the pattern on ravelry? as I like to use the function to see whatever yarn others have used, sometimes it's a good guide on what you could get away with using.
