I think once you know what you are looking for Ebay & EBay shops are good - just watch the P&P costs.
Hobbycraft, whilst not that cheap, is good as they have lots of stuff to look at & mess with before you buy.
Lots of people on here mention The Range is cheap but we haven't got one. I even noticed yesterday Asda has a few card blanks & stuff.

Best advice is start small & don;t but too much too soon. Smile

i started out buying the bumper packs of cards or off cut from a local garden centre/craft shop. always check the bargain bins, even two weeks after easter all the easter stuff will be half price, so adapt it all for summer cards.
trade things and look out for jumble sales/charity shops who have ribbon buttons etc.
oh and occasionally buy a good craft agazien, the free gifts are a great way to start.

To start with - see if there is a Paper Mill Shop locally, you can go along and fill up an A4 or A5 box with a mixture of colours, card, paper and sometimes vellum. Crap as much as you can in for a set price. It will give you a good basic card stock to work with.

What techniques are you thinking are trying first?

Also check out ELC and your local poundshop.
