Why is Decoupage so expensive?

jenk1 · 02/04/2006 17:00

I made a Decoupage card yesterday at the craft thing i went to and when i priced it up how much it would cost to make the card it came in at about £3.00
All it is is printed pictures that you cut out so why the cost?

Btw, DH has promised me that he will upload the pictures of the cards i made yesterday as he went out last night.

did you use real decoupage papers?

i think some people use wrapping paper, but i haven't tried it

SaintGeorge · 02/04/2006 17:28

My dad used to do decoupage.

He often used wrapping paper, but only the high quality stuff or else the paper just flops.

He would also scan pictures, or parts of, that he liked and then print extra copies. Useful too if you are artistic enough to do your own drawings.

i tend to get decoupage sheets off ebay / local crap shop and there £1.50 a sheet and from them i can make 3 cards.

Try printing on satin paper. Apaprently, those decoupage sites really work well then- a tip from the docrafts website. I don't do decoupage but i think that site with satin paper would be fine for resale.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 02/04/2006 20:33

topcrafts.co.uk are selling most of theirs at 40p a sheet - and free delivery on orders over £10

PutAPeachyInYourSimnelCake · 03/04/2006 19:36

Jenk, I think I have 2 proper sheets that i will never, ever use- email me (peaches and cream at bt internet dot com) with your address and they are yours

stitch · 04/04/2006 19:52

i print them of the net. i suppose the ink for the printer does cost, and the little foam pads, but im sure it doesnt cost me that much.

Dior · 04/04/2006 19:55

I tend to do decoupage with my stamps...you know paint three and layer them up on the card bit by bit. I have done several ones of a lovely wedding cake stamp, and they did look nice.

I know it's not the same as the printed sheets, but I can't be arsed to do all that fiddly cutting.

jenk1 · 05/04/2006 15:46

Oooh i like the sound of that Dior, can you put a picture on our craft page so i can have a look!!! Smile

Hmmm, I'll try to find one! It's nothing special though, you know...not as involved as 'proper' decoupage...

Dior · 05/04/2006 20:58

I've just looked, and I haven't bloody taken any of the wedding ones...I can't believe it. \link{http://uk.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/mumsnetcrafters/photos/view/ad7d?b=31\here} is a photo of something like I mean, except I use a stamp. I will do another wedding one, and post it on here as soon as I can.
