Preshrunk cotton batting - help please!

I bought some cotton batting to make some placemats.

I don't think that it's preshrunk.

Please can someone tell me how to preshrink? Washing machine? On what temp?

Thank you!

My dd put hers to soak in the bath, tepid water and used a small amount of liquid detergent ( one suitable for delicates) . She rinsed it again in tepid water and gently squeezed the water out and then hung it over the bath on an airer to dry.

Think I machine washed mine at 30 (I wash everything at 30). We've been using the resulting quilt for months without problems, washed again, etc.

Whatever temperature you want the finished pieces to be washed at, wash at that temperature or higher. I usually put things in the washing machine at 40 degrees to preshrink, then recommend 30 degree wash (if selling/giving away).
