I know nothing about photography and would love to get some good shots of family etc... can anyone recommend any websites/blogs for tutorials/inspiration/basic instructions?

All pointers gratefully received!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mrs Plug, I do enjoy photography but don't get much chance to get out and about at the moment with two small kids. I did a GCSE in manual Photography at our local college a few years ago and that was brilliant, covered all the basics and more. I think most courses would be geared towards digital these days. I also have a book called Starting Photography by Michael Langford which is very good.

You could also see if there is a camera club in your town?

Sorry, I know it's not exactly what you were looking for but I hope the above helps.

Ephotozine is a really good website, with galleries and forums.

& if you are talking digital - good editing software is a must have - love my souped up Iphoto & miss my Photoshop, but MAC were naughty & changed the format so the one we have doesn't work with our new computer, so I have to buy againHmm

I don't think you can beat a class/course, I have never had to edit a photo since I did mine!

Dh has spent the last year doing a course as well day workshop with one of the top photographers in the country. You can always improve a photo with editing, even if its just a crop.
Ds has also joined a few meet up groups and learnt a lot from those. Some provide professional models, others are a meet up between amateur models and photographers. He has learnt a lot from those.

I've found some challenges have really inspired me to get out and photograph more. I have a canon powershot basic digital camera, but still catch some really great [imho] photo's that I wouldn't have usually taken.

30 day challenge
