I have an internet business which sells amongst other things, decorations and gift wrappings. I have some lovely photos of the stock and was wondering if anyone has tried to promote their business and had any sales via Pinterest. I've had a look at it and it seems to be mostly for American companies. Many thanks for any info on this!

It's a phenomenal waste of time.

Good as a mood board etc but I haven't met anybody who has ever bought anything after seeing it on pinterest.

People don't have to announce who the picture is by either so plagiarism is rife.

Hi thanks for that - I was just curious as there seem to be quite a lot of businesses on there.

I've bought things after seeing them on pinterest, its not a waste of time at all imo

I have an internet craft business and have several boards on pinterest.

I use it to showcase my work and highlight my business to a wider audience. All my pins have a link to my website.

I also like looking at other boards for ideas and inspiration. You can get lots of craft downloads and find links to craft blogs you might otherwise be unaware of.

Not a waste of time imo either.

Great thanks for your comments. It sounds like it's worth doing - I've got my invitation so I'll get started! If anyone has got any tips or advice I'm all ears! Smile

I am watching with interest.

I listed my first item on folksy tonight and there was a "button" that, when pressed, automatically listed my item on Pinterest as well.

I don't know if it will lead to a sale, I am just learning, but thought that little nugget might help.

lifesabeech · 14/07/2012 09:14

I'd thought about Folksy in the past but never got round to it - please let me know if you have any luck - or do you know anyone else who has had any success.

It seems really easy to set up a shop there. I am techno useless and managed it on my own and it was quick too.

If I was a more established business I would work on a banner too but one step at a time.

teanosugar · 14/07/2012 22:27

Oooh, banners!
a lovely person etsy made my banners and avatars for me and I just uploaded it to my etsy, folksy and facebook and managed to enlarge it myself to fit my website. I think they only cost about £12 for a full set.

They also made me a matching advert to go in a magazine and that was £13.

Bargain!

If you want me to find the persons details let me know, I can't remember it off hand.

Anyway, back to pinterest - in the search box, type 'giftwrapping', thats a good example of what pinterest is all about!!

icapturethecastle · 14/07/2012 22:30

Not posted on there but I have bought some prints from the Czech Republic from Pinterest.

EyesDoMoreThanSee · 14/07/2012 22:32

my first post in here - but I have sourced most of my items for our house refurb through pintrest

carrotsandcelery · 14/07/2012 22:48

What's the name of your shop tea? Is it an etsy or a folksy one? (Apologies for the hijack). Blush

rockinhippy · 17/07/2012 13:27

I've bought stuff I've seen via Pinterest & I know people who've had success with pinning & getting sales from it too - one even from something of theirs I pinned

I don't think you can officially set it up as an extra business board though, but who's to know if you are pinning from various sources - when I get my act together I intend to use it that way too

InspiredToBoot · 20/07/2012 17:57

Not a waste of time at all. It's a fabulous way of showcasing what you've got.

Mermaidspam · 22/07/2012 00:55
