Not a plug for my stuff honest, but I make wire jewellery and I've just been commissioned to make a bracelet and earring set for a friend. I have no idea how much to sell it for. I've sold a few things to other friends but normally at a token price iyswim, and made lots and lots of gifts.....

My stuff is normally made from silver plated wire, or copper wire, and beads so it's not valuable, but it is very time intensive to make, so I don't want to overcharge her for the materials, but equally don't want to undercharge for my time. If I put a pic of something similar I made as a gift, can anyone let me know honestly what they'd pay for it?

I would look at folksy and etsy and see the prices on there to get an idea.

Pictures on profile now. Thanks NKU. I've had a quick look but always find Folksy a bit of a trawl. I'll have a look at etsy too

She wants something like the Pink one...

I would charge an hourly rate for making them, plus the cost of the materials, if its for a friend - but ask her to tell everyone who made them!

Great advice blue cheers.

I worry that because I'm slow, I'd be overcharging, but I can't really go any faster coz it's all fiddly! Guess its confidence...

Your jewellery is gorgeous!

I'm in a similar position as have just made something (fabric stuff, not jewellery) for a friend who commissioned it, but not sure what to charge. Was also thinking hourly rate + materials.
Do you mind me asking what you charge for your hourly rate?

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 14/06/2012 14:51

thank you! I have no idea what the going rate to twist wire should be. Any ideas anyone?

not a clue i'm afraid. i make similar and always struggle with pricing myself. i tend to pluck a figure out of my head more than actually structuring it.
