Fancy dress costume material

Morning all,

I want to make a fancy dress costume for my LO for halloween (I know it's months away but it's likely to take me all that time to actually get it made!).

Anyway, I looked on that back of a simplicity pattern for a toddler pumpkin costume and the material recommended is broadcloth. I have never heard of this type of material and wonder if any of you can advise what sort of material I should get or where I can get broadcloth from online?

Ta muchy!

I don't know why sewing patterns always mention broadcloth, I think it's an American term. It's just a medium weight closely woven fabric, could be cotton or polycotton. Not stretchy, quite soft. Men's shirt weight.

Having said that I find the best places for costume fabrics are ebay or a good market stall. On ebay you can get velours, suedette, lots of alternative fabrics as well as cottons in all the colours.

you'll likely find good hallowe'en fabrics at FabricLand

put your sunspecs on though Grin the website is awful, but they do sell some great stuff at good prices & decent quality & are always good on seasonal prints
