Knitting - which are the best online wool shops?

My local shops don't have such big ranges of wool and colours, does anyone have any recommendations for online yarn shops?

I've had good experience with kangaroo . The website sucks, but they are helpful, and you can call them and check stock levels that way.

Get Knitted is pretty good.

Also check out Texere. They sell unbranded/undyed yarns. The quality is superb-I made ds a jumper in their cheapo cotton and dyed it and tbh no difference from, say, Debbie Bliss.

And I am a yarn snob.

Ebay is also good. Look for cones, they are good value providing you have a big project for them. Eg 1000g cashmerino aran (debbie bliss) for £20 incl postage. (normally £3.50 per 50g so £50 off)

I agree with NQC that Kangaroo's website is a bit useless, but their staff and ranges aren't. Love them.

Oooh, texere looks good. I really do want to do some dyeing, and have a colour-competant friend to do it with, too ... just need the time.

Texere do the most wonderful mohair, and dirt cheap (I am wearing a jacket made of it as we speak, cost about a tenner). I put a huge list on an earlier thread, will go and find it.

Oh its really quick NQC if you use the machine. You can use machine for wool btw too. Takes 10 minutes. I did it with my vile and cheap maternity clothes to make them funky-10 minutes at the most.

I've cold dyed and space dyed (several dyes at once) too-really you just set the dye up and leave it, and then shout at kids who try to go near it. It doesn't take long.

I kinda want to try natural dyeing. The husband of an acquaintance spins, and has done vegetable dyeing. And my painter friend who is interested in dyeing (in theory, she has four kids and no time) wants to do vegetable dyeing.

I know there's a shop in East London somewhere that sells dyes too.

I want to do colourways, too.
