Ancient Greece art/craft project

Can anyone help? DD asked by school to provide an 'artefact' for an Ancient Greek museum that will be displayed in school next week. Can be anything from the period...

Any bright ideas? I'd like something easy, but impressive, that doesn't require a shopping trip for craft supplies. I suspect DD will lose interest half way through and leave me to finish it.....

Thanks, in advance.

I suppose the typical Greek artefact on display in a museum is going to be ceramic (a piece of pottery, such as a decorated plate, jar or urn) or stone (especially carved marble, such as a piece of sculpture or an Ionic or Doric capital from a temple column).

I'd paint a paper plate glossy black, and decorate it with glossy red figures. Or vice versa.

The figures can be harmless things like dancing ladies in Greek togas. (Avoid the priapic!)

Just print some images off the interweb, cut out and Pritt stick on. Simples.

Or you could papier-mache the horse's head from the Elgin Marbles...

Could you make a bowl shape using papier mache over a balloon? Paint it black inside and out but leave a wide strip on the outside to paint orange and decorate with suitable ancient greek figures? Like this?

Or decorate a circle of cardboard to resemble a greek shield - like this? There are loads of different designs on Google Images. Attach a strip of cardboard on the inside for a handgrip.

Great ideas, thanks.

The horse's head might be a step too far, but the plate/bowl/shield sound doable. Better get creative tomorrow! Smile

Those shields looks pretty good.
