Junk modelling a jungle

GettinTrimmer · 12/02/2012 10:01

I've promised my dc (ds 9 & dd 7) that we would junk model a jungle at half term.

I know we can make elephants from plastic milk cartons (I am not particularly good with ideas!). Can anybody suggest anything?

Thanks!

Old Blue Peter trick.. Roll up Newspaper quite tightly (the longer the page, the higher the tree) Sellotape the outside edge down, cut from the top in strips about 6" down and 1 cm wide.. then pull the inside of the roll upwards,,

DaDaaaa A Tree.. Grin

Use lots of Papier Mache.. Have just found this

familyfun.go.com/crafts/papier-mache-pals-667219

but there may be better sites around, if you google Papier Mache.

Use a big box to make into a jungle diorama <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=jungle+diorama&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1366&bih=571&tbm=isch&tbnid=O6sa6epcSa2DsM:&imgrefurl=www.flickr.com/photos/absintheandorange/galleries/72157623774121889&docid=FICsJzNQivYAAM&imgurl=farm3.staticflickr.com/2023/2193244032_18ffb8af34_z.jpg%253Fzz%253D1&w=640&h=426&ei=oUo4T8j7HeKy0QX-yKSeAg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=165&vpy=175&dur=2641&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=129&ty=123&sig=110192389230226439871&page=5&tbnh=127&tbnw=169&start=106&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:7,s:106" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">this is so sweet

Green card cut into palm leaf shapes, snipped along sides to make the spikeyness. IYSWIM. Craft foam and felt are handy too...(we've got to make a jungle diorama for school).

Incidentally, I have found that kitchen roll is much better for papier mache final layers, and that solid glue sticks are useless...double sided sticky tape and glue dots from Poundland are the nuts, however.
