Stash! What to do?

I have been doing very little actual knitting since dc born and far too much optimistic wool buying. I have a lovely new storage unit and it's all taken up with wool. I am certain I'll never knit it all up and part of me thinks I'd be better decluttering it to good homes now so that it stops looking at me and making me feel guilty. Any suggestions? Preschool always wants wool but there's no way my nice wool is going for toddler collage-sorry children!

I remember reading on here about a group that knitted blankets and clothes for prem babies - maybe they could use some of your wool. I gave some of my wool stash to our local Rotary club as they were knitting blankets but that was a while ago.

ebay it? Depending on what it is, you should get a fair amount back. Or if you wanted to be altruistic, you could see if a local old folks home would have use for it.

We often have requests for wool on our local freecycle group. Mostly it seems to be for kniiting baby/children's clothes for local hospital and overseas charity.

I'll take it off your hands! Seriously, though, if it's 'quality' sell it on ebay. I frequently destash and sell that way.

My knit and natter group knits for charity. We do baby blankets for the prem baby unit at our local hospital and fingerless mits, scarves and hats for the local homeless hostel. You might have a local knitting group that does the same and would welcome a donation of yarn.

How about asking a local residential home?

Where I work they have a weekly knitting group who knit for preemies at the local SCBU. Everyone's a winner

You could donate it to whoever organises the mumsnet blankets for future use. Can then be sent out to mumsnetters.

That's all very helpful, thank you. Might see how it goes on eBay and then donate some of the proceeds. It's really nice wool-some sublime, rowan and Debbie bliss, but in quantities and colours that aren't right for my brood now. But come to think of it, the league of friends at the hospital sell beautifully knitted but truly hideous baby stuff in their shop so maybe they'd like it. Might give them a call...

Yep definitely donate. Re read posts and think I'd rather do that. Might reduce guilt for having stash in the first place Blush

I de-stashed by giving to a local quilting grp who are using the fabric to make stuff they sell for charity. Then I held a sale and invited crafty friends and gave 25% to charity. It was fun too.
