Do I need to follow my followers or not even if I am not interested in some of them? Just wonder what is the etiquette for followers and following?

No you don't. If you look at the big posters on there they often have a lot more followers than they follow. It is a bit like Twitter or blogs - you can build up a following or a sort of fan club, if you like. I wouldn't upset real friends by not following them but complete strangers with whom I have nothing in common except a shared taste in quilts or something then no need to bother.

As you say, some people who follow you just aren't your cup of tea so if you don't want to follow them don't.

The temptation is to follow everybody though, isn't it? Just to be polite.
