Need a matching baby & doll blanket - any suggestions?

My friend is pg with her second, & I'm going to make her a blanket (knitted/crocheted).

I'd like to make a matching, smaller blanket for her 3 year old DD's doll, but I'm not sure how to shrink a pattern down.

The kind of thing I'm thinking of isn't just a patterned blanket, I'm thinking of something with the alphabet, or animals or similar on it, ideally with the sizes of the characters scaled down on the doll's blanket.

Has anyone else ever done this, or shall I just get my needles out & give it a try?

HI
why dont you try using smaller needles with less sticthes then put the pattern on it by swiss darning the pattern on.
