Amazing dressmaking materials - anyone?

I am planning to make a skirt for myself, but am unsure where on the internet to find amazing materials. I have been to Liberty, but these are possibly for when I actually know what I am doing, as don't want to mess up at that price per square metre!

If your in London try Fabrics Galore on Lavender hill, Battersea. A brilliant shop and fantastic prices (if their sale is on fabrics from £1 per meter). On line try Ray Stitch, a lovely website, also has a shop in Essex Road, Islington.

I recommend Croft Mill as it's very cheap reasonable, so it doesn't matter if it goes wrong :)

Another vote for Croft Mill. They rock.

Also in London-
Goldhawk rd area in Shepherds Bush (5 min walk from westfields) or Walthamstow market - amazing selection of shops/stalls at amazing prices!
