What yarn to use to crochet a rug?

Want to make a circular rug for DDs room.

Am to lazy to Don't really fancy making the t-shirt yarn if I don't have to.

Any suggestions for yarn to use or will cheap, chunky, washable acrylic wool do?

sidar do cheap wool in super chunky, as does Drops yarn. Drops is super cheap, I'm slowly creating a crochet throw in DK weight using drops. And I say slowly, I mean thinking about it and looking at the wool at the moment.

I've seen some fab rugs in pom pom yarn e.g. this

Good luck with it Fiona - I am so proud of my ripple blanket which took weeks and weeks.

Will have a look at the colours for the Drops yarn and the pom pom yarn. Somthing like that rug would be perfect Dilly

I've had my eye on that pattern for a while. Think with the pom Pom stuff you sort of crochet around the balls. Looks like it would be love underfoot anyway.

It looks great but I am a bit confused about the technique! Might just get the wool and give it a go..

p.s. Love the butterflies dilly

I made a rug for DD from hooplayarn which was very quick and easy, although you will need a massive, MASSIVE hook to work with it easily. The rug itself is very thick and weighs a ton (I used 3 rolls of hoopla) but it's not all that soft (hook not massive enough, stitches tighter than I wanted).

Ooo I love that pom pom rug. Is the pattern on ravelry? like I need more stuff to work on....

I'm doing a massive ripple throw for our king size bed and am using Wendy 50%merino do yarn.

I'm planning the next one in bright cotton stuff.

Crochet is bloody addictive!!

Ice Hoopla - YES! I knew I'd seen some yarn somewhere and this was exactly what I remembered. Bit concerned about size of hook? What did you use?

I know fiona the list of things I want to make is getting longer and longer.

methe and expensive! I've spent a fortune on yarn.

I used N/10mm, but I did the whole thing in single crochet (US), so it'd probably be easier to use a larger stitch. It worked up amazingly quickly - I'm not that quick, but finished the rug in a few hours Smile. It is much, much heavier than you'd expect though.
