ideas for decorating a blanket box

Hi

I have an old and tatty blanket box that I'd like to paint but fancy having a go at something a bit more artistic than just a coat of farrow & Ball neutral. But I don't have much inspiration. Has anyone done or seen something like this?

Thanks

I think mine looks good covered in wallpaper.

That's an idea. (Though I'm not sure DH would think so.) Do you varnish over the top to protect it?

Hello. The wallpaper is a good idea and yes, you would need to do several layers with decorators pva to make it waterproof and durable. Alternatively, you could cover it in your favourite fabric using the exact same method. It's surprisingly easy to do and the results are gorgeous (tutorial here: thehomelessfinch.blogspot.com/2011/10/nightstand-upcycleim-over-at.html). Or you cold still paint it in Farrow & Ball but create a covered foam cushion for the top; there's one here, at the end: allthingslovely.typepad.com/all_things_lovely/diy/

Brilliant! Thanks Toddlerone. that's exactly the sort of idea I was wondering about. I think a cushion on top would be great as it'll make an additional seat.
Looking forward to it now!
