I don't have a sewing machine (hopeless seemstress) but am good at other craft things/projects. That being said, do you think this would be easy to make without a machine? Any tips for how to start to make something like it?

It does look simple enough. Maybe glueing some of the parts would work well. Like the fold of where the rod goes through could be glued into place and the little flags and stars could also be glued on.

I'd start with an old sheet and cut out the basic shape and leave extra along the sides for hemming. Wunderweb could be used for hemming the sides so you could just iron it on instead of sewing or glueing.

If you're crafty otherwise then I can imagine that you'd have no problems making this using glue and odd bits of fabric.
