A complete surprise from DH. I had been using my old singer.

Both children have patchwork quilts. I'm thinking some little dresses or skirts for my DD who is nearly 1. Any good (ie cheap) patterns you can recommend.

They also have to be very simple as I have not made anything using a pattern before.

Lucky you, a new machine! There are some great magazines with free patterns often for little girls clothes. Also websites with tutorials and free patterns to download, try 'freeneedle' or google free childs 'sundress' or 'pinafore dress' pattern. Either style should be very straightforward for a beginner. I have also found some great patterns at bootsales. TBH there are so many beautiful little clothes that are so cheap to buy that unless it is something really special, it often costs more to make than buy. ATM I am making bunting, cushions, and drawstring bags to hold duplo, etc using some fabulous fabric, these are things you can't buy! Have fun.
