Best stitch for knitted baby blanket?

I've not picked up knitting needles since I was a small child. I'm expecting dc3 and I would like to knit a blanket (maybe get round to some booties if I can figure out the pattern). Just wondering what you think the best stitch for this is. I've seen some tutorials on youtube and I'm confident I could tackle seed stitch, moss stitch etc Maybe even some stripes or a border?

thanks :)

mmm getting carried away now! Just looked on the web and thinking about making a dream catcher blanket - solves the problem of what colour and stitch to choose!! Thinking this might be easier for me as knitting small squares is more managable for a beginner iykwim......

moss stitch is beautiful I think, but you'll go loopy doing a whole blanket in it (or I would) - I definitely think that something with stocking/garter stitch panels and lacy/patterned edges is the way to go - have you checked ravelry for ideas?

The dreamcatcher blanket sounds fine. it gives enough variety not to get bored and small enough projects not to get totally overwhelmed.
