Have been given lovely kit to make cross stitch cushion from lovely coloured wools, haven't done this in ages tho and the instructions say it is to be worked using half cross stitch and that the thread quantity has been worked out usin this stitch... What do they mean? Do I just sew lots of diagonal lines and never make a cross?

Bascically Yes!

dizzyday07 · 12/12/2011 23:22

Ooops! Just make sure that they all follow the same diagonal.

What dizzy said :) It can make a lovely effect, I recently finished a lighthouse picture that had a lot of 1/2 stitches, some using 1 thread rather than the normal 2, some using 3. Ended up with an almost 3D effect, really pleased with it!

sounds like it's tapestry. cross stitch = sewn on aida fabric using stranded cotton, tapestry = stitched on canvas using wool and in half cross stitch.

being nosy what's the kit? (i used to work for anchor as a designer)

Thank you! It's one from the historical sampler company, it says home and then has lots of pink flowers on a blue background - very cutesy and catch kid stony! It is just like you say with wool rather than stranded cotton - just wondered if it will look really thin if only half cross stitch but I guess they know!thanks for your help.

It is saying that you should use half cross stitch rather than continental stitch or you are likely to run out of wool. The difference in the 2 stitches is shown here.

is it this one?

it's a tapestry, def half cross stitch, coverage will be fine.

moonface73 · 13/12/2011 21:45
