Im hoping to make some stockings for friends babies from lots of different lovely fabrics. Patchwork style.

Or I was until I looked at how expensive fat quarters are. Is up to £3 each a normal price? And should I even be looking at fat quarters for a project like this? HELP! Xmas Grin

Round about £2.50 or so is about normal for decent quilting fabric. It's normally around £8 or so a metre. You might be better off buying some patchwork fabric from Ebay. You can get squares or strips in different colour combinations - even christmassy. I use this seller quite a lot.

I just bought from here stores.ebay.co.uk/MyFabricHouse. 4pcs for £4.99 and its a mystery bundle although they all looked good. Fingers crossed I can actually work a sewing machine, huh!

Thanks for the tip, I'll check that seller out!

I made patchwork stockings for my children, bought cheap fabric where possible, here's a link to the pattern I used.

I have another question. Is it better to do them on a machine or by hand?!

I woud do them with a machine as I think they'll be more robust.
