Just started on this machine sewing journey. Been drooling looking at materials on suggested websites but not sure if you can use any material for curtains? Any advice?

Depends how heavy you want your curtains to be. Furnishing weight fabric is what tends to be used for curtains (e.g. like the stuff Laura Ashley or JL sell on the bolt by the metre). This is usually lined and can be interlined too for warmth purposes. It also alters the drape of the fabric- the linings can be attached or unattached to the curtains.

If you just want flimsy, decorative curtains then you can use dressmaking fabric- I'd only ever use 100% cotton or linen. It depends on the finished result you want from the curtains.

If you want you could post links to the fabric you like and people could advise on suitability.

Hi Fayrazzled thanks for tips. I'm considering this one www.fancymoon.co.uk/loulouthi-curated-bloom-anna-maria-horner-fabric-4459.html. Was thinking of lining and using for roman blinds?

Oh - sorry the page with fabric isn't showing on the link/web address you posted, so I can't see what the fabric is

but for Roman blinds the info in this link should be useful to work out which cloths you can use here
