soles for baby shoes

My ds is 8 months and not yet walking, but he is the size of a 18-24 mo baby and all the shoes for that age are already hard-soled. I want to make some shoes for winter and got some leather for the sole, but the 'wrong' side of the leather is much less slippery than the outside, can I use it inside out or will it get damaged too easily?

If he's not walking, don't really see how it will get damaged

Sorry, it is a lame question, but he is standing, just wondered how fragile is that inside part of the leather.

Not a leather 'buff' (sorry for the pun) but I would most certainly put the less slippery side on the outside. Never mind whether it might just wear out that little bit quicker, he is not going to be in them for years and years, is he? But slipping when he wears them might well put him off walking.

That is true DutchOma! was having a 'common sense' low when I posted this... Blush
