Lace making for a (nearly) beginner

DD3 is 9 and really quite good at making lace (school club). For Christmas she wants a lace pillow and lots of thread from FC (GPs are providing bobbins) adn I would like to get her a book of techniques/patterns as well. The pillow and thread I can "help" FC with easily, but does anyone have any recommendations for books? I've looked online, but without actually flicking through I'm not sure which one would be best, and there's not a shop anywhere locally that I've found which has anything in stock.

I'm speaking to the teacher to takes the club, but reckoned MN would be as helpful Grin. Anyone?

Christine & David Springett might be a good place to start - I'd imagine she is making Torchon lace but you should check with her teacher. A lot of pattern books don't have very many instructions in (as they assume you can 'read' the pattern and the picture) so make sure you get one that is aimed at beginners/children. It's possible your local library would have some pattern books which you could look through.

Making Lace With Little Grey Rabbit. and there's another one by the same person, will have a look.

It's self-published and not very professional-looking but very good.

ah, here we are, 'Before Grey Rabbit' is the total beginners' one.
I should think both would be useful even if she is doing it at school, but if you can't find the beginners' one, she will manage fine with the other. It has different sorts of lace projects, mostly torchon with a couple of Bucks Point.

Oh yes, I have that "Making lace with little grey rabbit" book - I'd forgotten about it! It is very good.

things she's made so far are a snake, a snowflake, and an owl. She's currently working on a dog - not sure if that all counts technically as torchon (which is the more pattern-ey stuff yes?). Thanks for the links, I've also come across this one which also looks promising.

Had forgotten about the library Blush will have a look there too.

I make Lace. A couple of good books are:

The Torchon Lace Workbook by Bridget M Cook
The Technique of Torchon Lace - Pamela Nottingham - less good in my opinion, but others swear by it.
