Can anyone recommend some nice wool to make a blanket for my DD?

I'm planning to crochet something like this for DD. I want it to be single bed size.

I priced it up in the usual lovely cotton I've been using for baby blankets and it will cost a fortune and my husband will kill me if i spend that much on wool!

I'd like something easily washable that has a cotton (rather than shiney) finish and comes in lots of lovely colours - any recommendations?

Not cotton but the Stylecraft Special DK (acrylic) is really lovely (despite being acrylic) and very cheap. I made a double bed sized granny stripe blanket with it and it was lovely to work with.

The only wool I know is Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or Rowan Cashsoft DK, but that is very nice so everyone says and is about £5 a ball, and it comes in lots of colours...

Thanks for the suggestions. Think even £5 a ball might be a bit much!

The Sirdar Calico looks great - the colours are perfect. MrsMagnolia how many balls did you need for your blanket?

some calico here a couple of shades reduced to £2 a ball for clearance and the rest are £2.85, free delivery over £20

kemps have lots of shades for £2.19 a ball but p+p on top

GrateHits · 29/11/2011 10:34

Sorry £2.29 at kemps

The good thing about a blanket made of squares is that the dye lots are unimportant.
