Anyone want to join me in beating craft procrastination?

I keep meaning to start (and more importantly complete!) a knitting project but am findi g it hard to get started. I do have a young baby but I have got slots in the day I could craft, but I keep putting it off. Would anyone join me in a thread where we say what we've got done and encourage each other? Bit like I did over on a fly lady thread when I was getting my house in order. Any craft you like, big or small projects at any stage.

Evening Ladies, can I join?

Currently up feeding / consoling my 5 week old very colicky DD, wondering how to get my crafting back on track with no money, very little motivation and extreme tiredness, when I saw this thread Smile

I make cards and stationery and have done a course on precious metal clay, bought the starter kit but got no further.

Siikibam · 24/11/2011 08:43

Can I join please! I'm still procrastinating about Christmas presents! I have a Portrait to start and two bracelets to make - one is for secret santa. And that's excluding the projects that need finishing - a (trial) jumper for my daughter and a small purse for a friend of my brothers! The list goes on :)

ChristinedePizanne · 24/11/2011 09:40

Well it's hardly a huge achievement but it's more than I've done in weeks! I've finished the stripes now so I am on the fast and boring bit until I get to the other end :o

Tangle · 24/11/2011 13:30

Well done Christine :)

Plus side, I've got nearly all the appliqué finished on DD's bag (just a tiny black fish eye to do) - then its "just" doing some bits of embroidery and putting it together :).

Downside is I went to finish the top-stitching on the bag and the machine isn't working. I'm really hoping its just a fuse - if I get a chance before picking up DD I'll try and find another one.

Oh - and I'm meant to be making a red squirrel toy for DD as well...

thehamburglar · 24/11/2011 15:29

Gosh, you all sound very productive!

I have ordered some needles and yarn so hopefully this time next week, I will have started a scarf for my sister.

Siikibam · 24/11/2011 15:51

thehamburgler, you just reminded me daughter needs a scarf. I'd completely forgotten! I did neaten (sew) one bed sheet today so I've been (a little) productive :)

Familydilemma · 24/11/2011 18:48

Evening all! Truly shocking night with dd2 last night but aiming for a couple of rows of dd1s jumper tonight. Small steps or big... Mine will be tiny!

I have done NOTHING today. Was up at 5am as DH had an early start, after seeing my 2 DC to school, spent 6 ours working in a Pre-school just in time to run home back to my own children again. I am shattered....hmmm.... wonder if I can muster up the motvation to do some knitting tonight!

Thank you once again for this thread. x

Familydilemma · 24/11/2011 22:40

Nothing-dingle?! Plenty-but I hope you got the bit of you time knitting. I didn't do my few rows tonight - I just couldn't muster the energy. But tomorrow is ds's preschool day and I'm going to sleep when dd sleeps but give myself a sneaky half hour or so knitting! Assuming dd2 sleeps a teeny bit better tonight! I did read a knitting pattern book tonight-does that count? Wink

Madkatz-I just read your post again -five week old baby! Congrats-you've completed a fantastic recent project Grin. I used the time after ds born to build an impressive stash of wool and a pile of good intentions!

Siikibam-bed sheet neatening sounds very domestic goddess like!

MadKatz · 24/11/2011 23:57

thanks familydilemma she is a wonderful project and we're enjoying every minute.

I haven't made anything today but I have tidied my office/craft area. There was no chance of doing anything productive with no work space! Am determined to start tomorrow - have Christmas cards to make, and save the date cards for our dd's naming ceremony in April, as well as Valentines to start thinking about. Yes I know its 3 months away, but I've missed the Christmas market for making any cards to sell, so Valentines is the next one.

I also want to have a go at some silver keepsakes with our daughters fingerprints in, for special Christmas presents, something like this:

Siikibam · 25/11/2011 00:27

Thank you Familydilemma :) not sure on the domestic goddess front, the one bed sheet was enough for one day lol. I'm not very good at seeing. Hmmm maybe I'll attempt a skirt for my daughter...I'd need elastic...:)

Dingle · 25/11/2011 09:58

Madkatz, I so understand about the work space issue. My little craft room has become a dumping ground since I lost my crafty mojo about a year ago.

I think that's half my problem, it will take SOOOO long to tidy and organise and it seems so unproductive. When I actually attempt at making a card, I can't find the stamps, (or the die, or the ribbon etc Blush ) that I had in mind and progress is so slow.

ATM I have got boxes downstairs too so that I can TRY to get a few things done. My knitting bag in cupboard next to the sofa, my Copics in a basket on the breakfast bar with loads of stamped and cut images, my Cuttlebug and a few dies..... so I have something to hand IF I have a few moments spare.

It's not making up the embellishments I am having an issue with it's sitting down and actually finishing something.

I wanted to get some tissue box covers and do some decoupage but that might have to wait until the New Year now. Hmm It's very busy at work in the pre-school this time of year and I have a few hospital appointments coming up with DD too!

Good creativity ladies! xx

Familydilemma · 25/11/2011 10:59

I know what you mean dingle - I don't have a craft space as such but my house gets to a point sometimes where I can't imagine ever getting it straight which demotivates me even more. I apply the fifteen minute principle to mist stuff I procrastinate about-timer on, do it for fifteen mins then stop. Am using it for knitting just now. Does get me going. My pile of wool really demotivates me too-I prob have my next five years of projects lined up which makes it seem like an unending task not a pleasure. Blush

Your 15 minute rule sounds good Familydilemma, i might have to try that. Am looking to start making tomorrow.

Familydilemma · 25/11/2011 20:22

So...have completed household tasks including being thrown up on by four month old with cough and associated laundry. About to do fifteen mins knitting. Smile

MadKatz · 25/11/2011 20:43

Well done Familydilemma for your 15 mins!

I haven't done any making today, but done lots of web searching for ideas and also started my blog.

Familydilemma · 25/11/2011 22:21

Blush should have posted when id actually done it! Fell asleep on sofa instead! But try again tomorrow!

Oops!!

Tangle · 25/11/2011 23:58

I finished something :o!

Bag for DD now complete (although I did have to fight my instincts and make myself FINISH it, rather than try and make progress with next item - will I never learn!). Shows off my (lack of) skill, but I think she'll like it regardless. Its pink :o

Sewing machine now also back in working order, and I've got a weekend of peace and quiet so there's hope I might manage to make some headway.

Re. space to work - have to confess that the only way I've managed to get the bag finished is because its all been done by hand. I've got a daylight lamp that sits by the sofa and can do it on my lap. Sewing machine shares space on dining room table (so has to be evicted every time we want to eat). Rest of house is a tip. Sewing is a way I'm burying my head from dealing with things that could really do with happening before both Christmas and baby arrive... Might have to try and 15 minute rule for tidying and see how far I can get before DH & DD return on Sunday and cause chaos again.

Madkatz - I'm in awe you're even contemplating being creative with a 5 week old to deal with as well!

Familydilemma · 26/11/2011 07:56

Well done tangle Grin. I feel your pain on house things. Don't know if it helps-but flylady has really helped me. Cheesy American website, but made for people like me and very kind! It's where I got my fifteen minute rule from. Have a great Saturday!

OP posts:
MadKatz · 26/11/2011 14:01

Well done Tangle for finishing the bag.

Am at the in-laws ATM but heading home soon and am determined to finish the craft
Tidy up so I can start making tomorrow.

MadKatz · 26/11/2011 20:04

Have finished the tidying up of my craft/office space! Grin

Just sorting out my paper store and filing craft papers and card away where they should be

Familydilemma · 26/11/2011 21:48
