Is there a Calligrapher in the House?

who can help me pretty please Grin
For anyone who missed it, this is the Saga of Miguel Tuna, a brave Hero who is coming home from the Wars on Christmas Day, to live Happily Ever After with his devoted wife and child and my DD.
Anyway, it would be lovely if, among his things, he had a scroll or fancy document of some kind, with honours and laurels and plaudits and his Honourable Discharge from the Army on it, signed by King Constantine Carlos Aloysius III, King of the Caterpillars. (Still with me? if you are then many thanks Grin )
Is there anyone who could make one for me please? I am happy to pay for all the materials and something for your time, and the postage/packing to get it here, and it would really add something special to the Homecoming.
Any suggestions for wording of the thing gratefully considered too!
I was just going to try and do something in Word and print it out, but a proper "real" one would be so much nicer, if anyone has the time/patience/inclination...

Its been a long time since I've done Calligraphy but I can probably still do it.

If no one more qualified comes forward!

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/11/2011 18:26

I don't do 'proper' calligraphy but I do a lot of curly handlettering on my illustrations -if that's any help..if you're on facebook you might look at kind dog's page where there should be some examples !

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 16/11/2011 19:20

OO Thank you both. MaryAnn, your illustrations are lovely, but not what I had in mind and I don't think I'd be able to afford a "real" professional job (not angling for anything honest, just saying)
Soup, if I can come up with some suitable words, will you have a go? There will be no danger of DD suspecting anything if it's a) not printed out and b) not remotely like any of our writing she is too sharp for her own good sometimes and v v observant which is not good at Christmas time!
And if anyone has any suggestions for the words, do share Grin - I will update the original thread when I remember doh! but I don't think it's had nearly as much interest since it got moved to Classics Hmm I will consult the people who were hopelessly over excited the most enthusiastic though, Miguel really caught the imaginations much to my surprise when I posted about him.

oooo sealing wax? I used to have a little purple box with a sealing set in it, teeny little candles and a brass candlestick and the sticks of wax. It was my nanna's I think, or possibly even her mother's. All I have left now is the tiny candlestick with the end of one of the candles in it, on my "doodad" with lots of other little ornaments. Sealing wax would be lovely - we could have a ribbon too! gets a bit carried away Grin
I shall try and think of some suitable wording...

I'm not sure where the wax is. I had some and, oddly enough, I certainly hadn't used it all :) It may, if fortune is smiling upon us, be in the box with all my calligraphy stuff but I doubt it

Piglett · 17/11/2011 12:34

If you can't find the sealing wax I have some that I would be willing to donate to the cause!!

BlueChampagne · 17/11/2011 13:25

Looking forward to a post-Christmas update Smile

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 17/11/2011 19:58

ooo thank you Piglett
do you know, I am so amazed and thankful for all the interest and help people have given me over this Miguel Tuna thing. It is "just a toy" but to my DD it is going to mean the world, and absolutely make her Christmas into one she will remember forever, and nothing I could have done alone could have made it half as nice as it's going to be Grin

Are you doing this for her or for you? :o

PomBearAtTheGatesOfDoom · 17/11/2011 23:04

It would never have occurred to me! I got Mabel Tuna the year before last, but that was a spur of the moment thing when we saw her in durance vile Toys R Us It was DD who announced that Sydney and Mabel were writing to Santa and launched into the story of Miguel Grin It is a bit hoist on my own petard for making Santa bring Mabel with a note saying she wrote to him, but the backstory is all out of DDs head - I have no idea where she dreamed it up but it's great fun Grin (and let's face it, a stuffed caterpillar and a plastic gun and a jar of marmite is a damn sight cheaper than an ipod or laptop of whatever she could have asked for for Christmas!)

:)

Conveniently, I need to get up in the loft later to get the camping stuff down for DSs to camp (in side the scout hut) so I shall dig out my writing slope whilst I'm up there.
