Where to get leather?

Has anyone got a good suggestion for who stocks leather? I need a piece (about 12 inches square) to use for recovering a vintage camera.

I've tried ebay but the piece I chose is too thick - it needs to be really pliable and only a couple of mm thick.

marking my place as I'm also interested.

Have you thought about reusing something else leather that you could buy second-hand like a jacket or bag or something?

or another vintage camera that you could use the leather cover from?

Thanks over , yes we've been idly looking at things in car boot sales for quite a while now but there's nothing of the right shade or quality so far....

Have you checked your local fabric shops, around here they often have a basket of leather scraps in various colours, I usually find the ethnic owned shops are the most likely to do this.

otherwise as its a small soft piece you are after, have a look at local junk shops etc, as OMDB has already suggested, reusing a soft bag, or old skirt etc would be a good idea - as far as the shade goes, just buy something in a lighter colour - which will likely be less sort after & therefore cheap - & dye itWink

your local cobbler should have a good selection of leather dye coloursWink

I'm a member of my local council scrap store (pay an annual fee) and they quite often have lots of leather, offcuts from furniture manufacturers. I got lovely purple and plum colours when I went a couple of weeks ago.

I've got a big piece I found in a skip. It might be too thick for your purposes though.

Our local upholsterers used to sell offcuts, but they closed many years ago. Worth trying somewhere like that though.
